Phelps back to pool in bid to add to his 21 golds
At these Rio 2016 Olympics, a Games he repeatedly has declared will be his last, Phelps on Thursday night staggered the field over the final 100 meters to win the 200m IM, and by almost two seconds. Phelps finished first, while Lochte finished second.

Lochte, leading after 100 meters, third at 150, faded to fifth, 1:57.47.
That was nearly two seconds in front of silver medallist Kosuke Hagino of Japan, the 400m individual medley champion who powered from fifth at the final wall to touch in 1:56.61.
RIO DE JANEIRO-The curtain comes down on one of swimming’s great rivalries on Thursday when Olympic giants Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte lock horns one last time. Most recently, Phelps, with help from his fellow Team USA swimmers, won his 20 career Olympic gold and he did so with style.
“I hope to go to the next Olympics but not to swim this slow”, she said.
RIO DE JANEIRO (Fort Wayne’s NBC) – From a downright nasty scowl from Michael Phelps to an ancient physical therapy that leaves large circular marks on the bodies of athletes, this Olympics has had its fair share of memorable moments.
The medal extends Phelps’ Olympic record to 26 career medals, including 22 golds. Lochte took a long, long time getting out of the pool afterward; he was by far the last guy out of the eight.
To thunderous roars in Rio’s aquatic centre yesterday, Michael Phelps cemented his title as the greatest Olympian of all time, winning two golds to take his remarkable Olympic medal tally to 25.
She sounded a lot like Phelps. Predictably, Phelps dominated the race and won gold while Le Clos didn’t even medal.
While Phelps uses the cupping technique to relieve soreness and heal his muscles, Manduca-Marquez says it has many other benefits.
Phelps also made headlines for his celebration after winning the 200m butterfly. I thought I was good friends with him, clearly not.
Milking the acclaim of the crowd, Phelps climbed, Wimbledon tennis-style, past a bank of poolside photographers to kiss little Boomer and fiancee Nicole Johnson after an emotional medals ceremony.
Hosszu added to her wins in the 400 IM and 100 backstroke with a time of 2:06.58. Sort of just feels like he’s showing off now, doesn’t it?

“Just being able to see the number 1 next to my name again, one more time in the 200 fly, I couldn’t have scripted it any better”, he said. “That was the last time I’ll ever swim it”. Simone Manuel of the United States took the second spot, followed by Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden and defending Olympic champion Ranomi Kromowidjojo of the Netherlands.
