Schooling is now enrolled at the University of Texas-Austin.

Michael Phelps has two events left in what appears to be the final swims of his storied Olympic career: Friday night’s 100-meter butterfly and Saturday night’s 4×100-meter medley relay.

Joseph Schooling won the race, earning the first ever gold for Singapore.

Right as Friedman said that, Phelps name came up as the victor.

Phelps wasn’t the only United States swimming star looking for glory in the pool Friday.

Japan’s Kosuke Hagino took the silver, while China’s Wang Shun claimed the bronze. Hardware he’s got – in spades. He said Friday he expects Phelps to be by his side.

“I hope this opens a new door, opens more doors for sports in our country and hopefully I set a precedent for a lot more guys to come up”, Schooling said following his stunning triumph in Rio.

I’m sure the announcers at the CBC strive for accuracy, but they really messed this one up. It is just one time down the pool and that’s it.

Two years ago, Michael Phelps, who has become the world’s most decorated Olympic champion, was on the verge of taking his life.

Schooling is not the only University of Texas student competing at the Olympics. American swimmers have won it in six consecutive Olympics.

Travis Stevens won silver in Judo and bronze medal winners included Phillip Dutton, Individual eventing (equestrian) and Maya Dirado, Women’s 200m individual medley (swimming).

A loud roar went up as Singapore’s history-maker strode up the top step to take his bow and receive the medal from countryman Ng Ser Miang, member of the International Olympic Committee. “Congratulations to Joseph Schooling, for bagging the Gold medal in the Olympic Men 100m Butterfly in 50.39s and breaking the Olympics record in the process!” he wrote.

“This is the best gold medal of them all”, the 31-year-old said.

“That’s why I came back after ’12. It was all about how much heart you had coming home, trying to get your hand on the wall first and thankfully I could”. “But I want to do those”, the American added. I am who I am. “That was a real breakthrough for me to be able to win that one”.

And who could possibly forget Simone Biles? He acknowledges me now and we text back and forth.

Phelps will be doing double duty Thursday night. And if the International Olympic Committee let women swim the 1,500 meters like the men do, she’d have one more gold.

Phelps is expected to resume his rivalry with South African Chad le Clos in a battle for gold in the 100 meters butterfly.

The hoplite, apparently, was the most unique, and just sounds cool.
