Silver medal winners United States’ Michael Phelps, South Africa’s Chad Le Clos and Hungary’s Laszlo Cseh celebrate in the men’s 100-meter butterfly medals ceremony during the swimming competitions at the 2016 Summer Olympics, Friday, Aug. 12, 2016, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
“We are in great shape, not only with Katie but with the team that we have now, ” Phelps said moments before Ledecky’s interview.
“Done, done, done – and this time I mean it”.
Following his six-medal performance at the games, Phelps said that he had wanted to return on his own terms to finish things differently. The most decorated Olympian completed his final race on Saturday during the 400-meter medley relay at the Olympics Aquatics Stadium in Rio.
“I have a feeling it’s not”, Lauer said.
Phelps hauled in five gold medals and a silver in the Rio Games. “This was the cherry on top of the cake I wanted”.
Meanwhile, Britain’s Justin Rose was listening to “God Save The Queen” and watching the Union Jack rise into the sky on Sunday while still trying to fully appreciate the historic Olympic gold medal around his neck.
“Katie is just tearing it up”, Phelps said.
“As soon as I walked into the warm-down pool that final night, the tears started coming and filling up in my eyes, and [coach] Bob [Bowman] and I shared some of those emotional moments with one another”. At one point during the interview, Phelps and Ledecky snapped a photo.
The duo recreated the photo on Monday in Rio, but this time Phelps is getting the autograph from Ledecky.
