Phelps, Lochte Rematch in Tokyo? Debbie Phelps Says ‘That Would Be Wonderful’
I think he will be back for Rio.

During his “Today” show appearance Lochte never said Phelps will be swimming in Tokyo, just that “he will be there”.
Even if Phelps hasn’t been able to top that incredible 2009 performance, he’s still consistently proven to be the man to beat in this race.
“I’m just living a dream come true”, said Phelps. “Swimming in the same pool as him, it’s unbelievable”.
“I honestly don’t think this is going to be his last Olympics”, Lochte told the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday.
Upon closer look, he does appear to be hesitant re: spaghetti, whereas Lochte is having a great freaking time.
The U.S. swimmer (who is known for his changing appearance as well as his swimming abilities) posted a photo on Instagram (below) of himself and Phelps preparing for the race that the two of them have dominated for more than a decade. Just 30 minutes after his medley victory, Phelps qualified for the 100-meter butterfly finals with the fifth fastest time Thursday evening.
When Phelps retired after the 2012 London Games, Lochte was right to predict that America’s most decorated Olympian would return for Rio.
China also took seven more trips to the medal podium on Day 6, sheering down Team USA’s overall medal lead by one for the second straight day. But outside of the relays, their rivalry has been one for the ages – arguably one of the best in sports history.
If you need me, I’ll be playing a very hard round of Fuck, Marry, Kill: Phelps, Lochte, pasta. They were the one-two punch again during the 2016 Olympic Trials in Omaha, Nebraska.
Lochte and Phelps have combined to win the 200 IM at 13 of the last 14 major global meets.
