Phelps wins gold medals No. 20, 21 in Rio
Phelps followed him home in second touching the wall in the exact same time as rivals Chad Le Clos of South Africa and Hungary’s Laszlo Cseh.

It was a night of high drama at Rio’s Olympic Aquatics Stadium on Thursday with a new Michael Phelps record, a dead heat and Canada’s first gold medal of these Games.
Michael Phelps swept to a jaw-dropping 22nd Olympic gold Thursday as China s Chen Xinyi failed a doping test to cast a shadow over the Rio swimming competition.
Then they all looked up to Schooling, receiving the gold for his blistering time of 50.39.
There was little time to savor the moment, however, as he raced back off the pool deck to get ready for the semi-finals of the 100m butterfly, which he also has the chance to win for a fourth successive Games. He simply said, OK, Bob knows what he’s doing and I am going to trust him.
“One of my long-term goals is to win the gold medal in Athens”, the young Phelps said when asked about his hopes for the future.
While the landmark is a swimming first, two other athletes have achieved the feat in other Olympic sports: Al Oerter in discuss and Carl Lewis in long jump.
Lochte’s performance at Rio was far from the heights he would have expected, particularly given it was his only individual event at his fourth Olympics. The Baltimore native will now close out these Olympics in the 4×100 medley relay on Saturday, where he’ll have a shot for his 23rd gold medal.
At the age of 27, during the 2012 Olympics in London, Phelps earned the 19th medal of his career and the most of any Olympian ever. Now competing in Rio, and coming out of retirement to do so, Phelps has brought that total up to a staggering 26 (22 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze). And Maya DiRado knocked off the Iron Lady in the 200 backstroke, pulling off a furious rally on the final lap to beat Katinka Hosszu.
Australia’s Mitch Larkin grabbed the silver in 1:53.96, just ahead of Russia’s Evgeny Rylov with the bronze in 1:53.97.
The 100 fly and, presumably, the medley relay are yet to come.
The first Games of the Modern Olympics produced the fewest golds (11) while the Soviet-boycotted 1984 Los Angeles Olympics generated the most (83). Shi Jinglin claimed bronze for China.
Biles, 19, and US teammate Aly Raisman won the gold and silver, respectively, in the women’s all-around final over Russia’s bronze victor Aliya Mustafina.

“Things started to hit me this morning”, he said.
