Punk – real name Phil Brooks – was submitted after just two minutes by novice Mickey Gall at UFC 203 but walked away with a healthy pay-packet which works out at nearly £3,000-per-second. “Just like I said with Brock, having your first fight with the UFC is tough, and you see tonight, even if it’s up against a guy who’s 2-0, this is a tough place to learn”. Gall quickly worked his way into side control, transitioned into mount and after delivering a number of hard punches, he was able to work the position and finally apply the rear-naked choke to end Punk’s UFC debut. Obviously, Mickey is a hell of a fighter.

CLEVELAND – There were no steel chairs to the back, jumps off the top rope or long-winded promos – just a legitimate, one-sided beatdown suffered by CM Punk. “I knew once he got in there with me, I was gonna be able to just dominate him”.

At the post fight press conference, Punk held back the tears after seeing his dream fall away from him. Afterward, a number of MMA fighters reacted on Twitter to Punk taking his first (and probably last) L. Noticeably absent from the list was Conor McGregor, though a TMZ cameraman still found him and asked him his thoughts about Saturday night’s beatdown.

CM Punk’s highly-anticipated MMA debut went the way that many were expecting as the 37-year-old Chicago native signed with the UFC in December 2014 with no previous experience. He, he kept repeating, “Oh you don’t want to shake my hand, you don’t want to shake my hand” or something like that.

“He’ll get that. It’s a maturing process”, Gall said.

“I think it’s not so much me but their feelings against him … so, I guess that’s kinda crappy”.

After the bout, Gall told interviewer Joe Rogan that fans on the Internet should stop the hate. I didn’t get a chance to wrestle with him per say, but I got a chance to be out there with him.
