Phil Spencer: Project Scorpio Is 4.5x More Powerful Than Xbox One

Since last E3, Microsoft has made good on their promise to support Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One and in a recent interview with Wired, the head of Xbox at Microsoft, Phil Spencer, spoke about their backwards compatibility initiative and speculates on original Xbox games being included, however he also admits that it’s something they’re not working on right at this moment.

When Microsoft announced Xbox One S during its E3 press conference, no one was expecting that Microsoft would have another surprise up their sleeves in the form of Project Scorpio.

The 4K Blu-ray compatibility and HDR support aren’t just for Netflix and Amazon streams, but the Xbox One S will also play those new and 4K Blu-ray discs too.

According to Microsoft developers will require for their games to use dynamic scaling, if they want their games to look better compared to what they look now in current console.

With the reveal of Project Scorpio many analyst were fearing that this will create a divide in Xbox community. It was thought that this could signal Microsoft’s intention to bring the full game to the PC, but that now seems unlikely. Also games that will come for Xbox One will be playable on Xbox One S and Project Scorpio. I’m trying to be transparent with people on where we are ih the design of Project Scorpio and what we designed it for. Microsoft unveiled during its Monday media briefing at the Electronic Entertainment Expo a new, slimmer version of the video game console coming later this year and a more powerful one that’s due in 2017. This promotion is expected to run until at least October 1.

That’s not to say you can’t play existing and older Xbox One games on Scorpio, but you won’t get any performance boosts-it’ll be like playing them on a normal Xbox One.
