PHILADELPHIA (AP) – The latest on the shooting of a Pennsylvania state trooper

Police say there were four males inside the auto, all of whom were removed from the vehicle by officers.

A state trooper shot during a chaotic auto chase with a teen suspect has been released after spending a day in a Philadelphia hospital.

During the stop, a man got back into his auto and fled, rear-ending a school bus. 45 he’s accused of using to shoot Trooper Casey, State Police say, so far, they know it was stolen in a 2011 Georgia burglary after it was originally purchased in Texas in 2009.

Giovanny Cotto was charged as an adult with attempted murder, risking a catastrophe, weapons charges and other felonies after police said he started a behind-the-wheel gunfight that ended when his auto struck a school bus.

State police spokeswoman Maria Finn said the incident happened around 9:30 a.m., along Interstate 676, which runs through the center of Philadelphia. The trooper returned fire from inside the cruiser. Luckily, there were no students on board the bus at the time of the crash, and the bus driver was reportedly uninjured. Raykovitz said the other two men from the vehicle – who had been sitting on a Jersey barrier on I-76 during the traffic stop – got away during the chase.

Authorities said that a state trooper was hospitalized when a traffic stop for expired registration literally spun out of control, resulting in the officer being shot after the alleged assailant engaged police in a shootout and chase on Interstate 76, near Center City, Pennsylvania.

Two suspects in the shooting have been apprehended, the shooter and one other; two others are being sought.

The identities of the 17-year-old and the second suspect in custody were not immediately released.

“I saw a gunfight down here”, he told the Associated Press while pointing to the interstate from an overpass.

Trooper Patrick Casey, 31, was shot in the shoulder. Cotto then pulled up beside Trooper Casey and began shooting at him. The trooper is in stable condition. The shooter was swiftly taken into custody by the Pennsylvania State Police.

Mayor Michael Nutter said at the hospital that he spoke with the trooper, who remains in stable condition.
