Philadelphia Eagles CEO says Chip Kelly didn’t push to keep coaching job
A 38-24 loss to the Washington Redskins on Saturday dropped the Eagles to 6-9, ending their hopes of reaching the post-season, and the Eagles responded on Tuesday as third-year coach Kelly was shown the door. Unless you count interim coach Pat Shurmur, which means pretty much nothing, because it’s very likely he won’t be on the Eagles’ staff for much longer either.

Kelly had massive success at OR before jumping to the NFL.
Kelly was sacked after missing the playoffs for the second straight season and failing in his first year in charge of personnel.
The mood inside Chickie’s and Pete’s was festive after Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie laid the hammer and fired head coach Chip Kelly.
“As I watched this season unfold, I determined that it was time to make a change”, Lurie wrote in his letter.
He said he did not fight Lurie’s decision and he wants to remain in the National Football League, according to the report. Ed Marynowitz, the team’s VP of player personnel, also received his walking papers. Now there is speculation that the Detroit Lions could be on Kelly’s short list if there is an opening.
Sources told ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio that Lurie had been thinking for weeks about making changes in the team’s structure, including stripping Kelly of personnel control.
If Sean Payton indeed can be had by sending draft-choice compensation to the New Orleans Saints, the Eagles at least should consider it. Active coaches with a Super Bowl victory on their resumes aren’t available all the time. That will allow the Eagles to get a jump on some of the hot assistant coaches who will be available, including Sean McDermott, the Carolina Panthers’ defensive coordinator who once held the same title with the Eagles. Pederson was the Eagles quarterback when Andy Reid first took the job in Philly. Here are Brinson’s thoughts on Kelly considering the Lions. Kelly provided an immediate return by coaching the Eagles into the playoffs with 10 victories. They gave big money to underperforming free agents and got rid of those who performed in Philadelphia.
“I was the fist to say Chip was a fraud”, Bissinger said.
Kelly, 52, had been rumored to be on the chopping block down the homestretch as the team he rebuilt with his newly culled personnel power floundered in the horrific NFC East. He is expected to play Sunday against the Ravens. When I interviewed Eagles’ linebacker DeMeco Ryans shortly after the season ended, he gave 100 percent credit to Kelly for turning the organization around.
Kelly didn’t want players perceived as “me-first” guys. Until this point, Kelly had said it was Lurie’s decision – not his – to oversee all player moves.

Chip Kelly walks around like he invented football, but as it turns out, he doesn’t know if The Duke is blown up or stuffed. I’ve seen the numbers and you can use them in many ways – for example, when the 0-3 Steelers lost to the 0-3 Vikings in London in 2012, that to me is not what we’re talking about.
