In his capacity as a “leader” with the Cowboys, Hardy was at the Omni Hotel signing autographs and meeting fans on Monday night, when one of them handed him a toy Panthers helmet. Hardy pulled a $100 bill out his pocket, signed it with his nickname “Kraken” and gave it to the lucky fan.

Smith said he was irritated at first but was satisfied with the alternative. (Why a 38-year-old Cowboys fan was bringing Hardy a Panthers helmet is a whole other issue.) Hardy rejected the helmet saying “no, I can’t do it”, presumably upset at the team that paid him $13.1 million to sit out last season after getting convicted of domestic violence charges. Problem solved. Ben Franklin to the rescue. “But he offset it by throwing down the $100 bill”.
Luckily for Smith, though, Hardy having no time to look back doesn’t mean he doesn’t have time for his fans. I was a little surprised.
Hardy was there at the Owners Box sports bar signing autographs as part of promotion for Gameday Sports Tours.

“You got to show love”, he told the Morning News. The Cowboys openly have talked about wanting to sign him to a contract extension before he hits free agency in 2016. Hardy served a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy before returning to the Cowboys three games ago. The oft-troubled defensive end is not too fond of his former team and thus refused to sign the item.
