Philadelphia Eagles: The key to a successful season is Ryan Matthews

They got who they believe is their franchise quarterback of the future.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz found out that instead of sitting on the bench for the season, he was going to be given the keys to the offense, and be the team’s starting signal caller THIS season.

The Cleveland Browns held the second overall pick in the 2016 draft before sending it to the Philadelphia Eagles for a boatload of picks.

“Everybody has their opinions”. “We are definitely excited to go out there and try to mix it up. I’m sure me and (defensive coordinator Ray Horton) will discuss what we need to do, but at the same time, I’m more anxious about our football team”, he said. If you don’t spend time with those guys and come away feeling comfortable about your decisions, then you should probably look somewhere else. With the Browns in a full-on rebuild mode, even greater than that being undertaken by the Eagles, Wentz would have been at a disadvantage if chosen to be Cleveland’s starter this year.

Saturday, the Eagles pulled off a blockbuster trade by dealing starting quarterback Sam Bradford to the Minnesota Vikings for a 2017 first round draft pick and a 2018 fourth round draft pick.

“Each game there’s 10 plays that you say, ‘that’s what makes him the No. 2 pick in the draft, ‘” Reich said.

The Eagles went 1-9-1. Griffin, voted a team captain by teammates this week, signed a two-year deal after being released by the Washington Redskins in March. He averaged 8.2 yards per completion and threw three TD passes in 38 total preseason attempts, also rushing for 40 yards on five carries.

Whether the Eagles make the playoffs this season, this was the right move to make.

Wentz, who played just seven games last season at North Dakota State, feels he is sufficiently prepared for the National Football League, though he is aware that there may be the occasional unexpected challenge. “He’s done a great job with that, staying in the coaches’ ears”.

The fact that Wentz’s first start will come against the team that chose to select no quarterback rather than him only heightens the drama. It’s shocking because you aren’t ready for it, but at the end of the day, obviously it’s a business and once teams started having some quarterbacks going down, some quarterback issues, you could read the writing on the wall. He studies. He pays attention to detail.

“It does make it exciting when you know you’ve got a guy who is in there who can play and a guy who’s going to be here a long time in Carson, so I’m as excited as everybody”.

“It starts with our head coach and our coordinators and our quarterbacks coach”.

Doug Pederson got to the NovaCare Complex pretty early on Wednesday, strolling in at 5:45 a.m., still well before sunrise.

That was what personnel chief Sashi Brown told reporters in a press conference after the trade.

So while some angles may focus on the Browns passing on Wentz, the player himself should be happy with how things played out. But, instantly I was just really excited. “Move forward, on to the next”, Wentz said. “I knew I was ready”. That includes veterans who were convinced that the Eagles planned to be competitive with Bradford at the helm while building for the future behind young players like Wentz. Goff is expected to be inactive at San Francisco on Monday night.
