Hollywood might want to start paying attention if this whole Wentz thing works out and he becomes the quarterback the Eagles hope. Fans expected a mediocre season led by Sam Bradford, en route to a trained and prepped Carson Wentz takeover in 2017. Up until the Bradford trade, Eagles coach Doug Pederson had said that Daniel would be next in line if Bradford were to get injured.

“It goes back to (the fact that) we don’t have the same amount of resources that we’ve had in the past because of the picks we traded (to move up for Carson Wentz)”, Roseman said. The second overall pick in the 2016 National Football League draft was named the opening day starter on Monday by Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson. So Pederson is giving Wentz the keys not to be accompanied by a short leash. I go off of the belief that you want to go in with the plays you’ve been repping all offseason and training camp. “I’m sure me and (defensive coordinator Ray Horton) will discuss what we need to do, but at the same time, I’m more anxious about our football team”, he said.
By making a major play for Wentz, the Eagles are essentially claiming that he will be their quarterback of the future.
Wentz only started 23 games in college. That’s sound strategy for a rebuilding team.
At the time of the trade, the Browns’ quarterback depth chart was bleak.
The interaction with coach Pederson, offensive coordinator Frank Reich and quarterbacks coach John DeFillippo has been all positive. “It’s about our football team”, Jackson said after practice. That made it pretty clear that the North Dakota State boy was going to be the starter.
The NFL’s Network’s Mike Garafolo confirmed Caplan’s report nearly instantly, and noted Daniel is not too happy about the idea of Wentz assuming the starting role. “I really do”, Jackson said. Invariably, the team cuts ties with the player a few years later, no better off than they were before they drafted him.
So are the Eagles, even though Pederson was adamant from the moment that Wentz was drafted that this was going to be a glorified redshirt season for Wentz, who would sit behind both Bradford and backup quarterback Chase Daniel. They beat Pederson to the building – he got there at 5:45. He opened 29 games for the Crimson with starts at left tackle (11), right guard (10), left guard (seven) and right tackle (one).
As for Wentz, when he found out the good news, he knew he was ready. “This is just the beginning of the new normal”.
“If something doesn’t go right, I am grabbing the guys during special teams drills in practice or after practice and just repping it”, Wentz said.
Wentz should have a full complement of players around him. Again, it comes down to individual evaluation of a player.
Wentz has not played since week one of the preseason in which he suffered a hairline rib fracture that sidelined him the final three games of the preseason.

“He didn’t play at a D-I school, but they obviously see a lot in him”, Browns cornerback Joe Haden said. But I think it’s going to take a little time before that decision of what we did or what anybody else did will come to fruition. “If anything it just helps me a little more, just to get that fire going and help the young buck come Sunday”.
