Philadelphia Schools To Close Early On Friday Due To Near Record Heat
Due to the continued high heat and humidity in our schools, all West Shore School District Schools will be dismissing early today, Friday, September 9. However, the heat index will be near 100. “After school activities are now scheduled as planned”, according to a statement from the district. Administrative offices will be open according to their regular schedule.

The school year only began two days ago, but with temperatures heading up to the mid-90s today, the Philadelphia School District has made a decision to close schools at noon today.
Philadelphia Catholic schools will also close early Friday, following the school district’s lead.

The Archdiocese said that their high school and elementary schools in the suburban counties typically follow the decision of their corresponding local public school district, and will submit closure status independently. Nearby cities like Trenton and Reading have closed schools early this week as well.
