Philando Castile shooting: protests continue in Minnesota
Kelly wouldn’t elaborate on what led up to the shooting, citing a pending investigation.

Castile “was not following the directions of the police officer”, he added, declining to provide more details, the paper said.
Castile was shot and killed by a police officer during a traffic stop on July 6, 2016 in Falcon Heights, MN.
The U.S. Justice Department, which quickly launched a civil rights investigation into the Baton Rouge shooting, said it would monitor Minnesota’s investigation.
“The reports from Minnesota are troubling and must be thoroughly investigated”.
A suburban Minnesota police officer who killed a black driver reacted to the man’s gun, not his race, his attorney said Saturday, giving the most detailed account so far of why the officer drew his own weapon. He said he spent much of the day with Reynolds, her daughter.
Castile’s girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, livestreamed the confrontation moments after he was shot Wednesday night just outside of St. Paul.
He also acknowledged the wide reach of the Facebook video, noting “what is depicted in the video, it just makes you sad to watch all of that unfold”.
The advisory says, “In particular young males are asked to exercise extreme caution in affected cities in their interactions with the police”.
“They have a ideal right to be there”, the governor said. Gov. Mark Dayton spoke individually with demonstrators, but did not address the crowd as a whole.
Jackson said he talked to Dayton “about ways to build bridges and close gaps”. She said it’s one of her best memories. “That is where I should be in situations like that”. He says he wants to get input from people “on the front lines”.
“He said that he could hear noise from protesters from inside the house”.
This is yet another high-profile killing of a black man by cops. “We have a diverse population spread throughout the state”. “I don’t see that being part of that in any way”.
It can be risky for black men and women to own guns in this policing environment, and it shouldn’t be, considering that gun ownership is a constitutional right, said Philip Smith, president and founder of National African American Gun Association.
Those with such permits are not required to tell an officer they have a weapon if they are licensed to carry one, but a person with a carry permit must display the permit card and a valid government-issued photo ID immediately upon request by an officer.
State investigators said the two officers involved were Jeronimo Yanez and Joseph Kauser, both four-year veterans of the St. Anthony Police Department, with Yanez identified as the shooter. Kauser is also on administrative leave.
A makeshift memorial of flowers, balloons, signs and chalk messages that included “RIP Philando” has sprung up near where Castile was shot.
Castile’s fiancée live-streamed the immediate aftermath of the shooting, showing Castile slumped against the driver’s seat, with blood soaking through his shirt.
She could be heard saying Castile was shot after police pulled their vehicle over, citing a broken tail light. “The police respond to those descriptions”, said Stephens, a former Charlotte, North Carolina, police chief.

Yanez’ attorney Thomas Kelly spoke to WCCO via phone Saturday. The labor union that represents the officer has urged people to reserve judgment.
