Philippe Coutinho: Likely to return versus Sion

A draw would suit both sides perfectly, but an annoyed Klopp won’t settle for that, and Sion are having a tough time at the moment.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes they can learn from the drab draw in Sion.

“Sion are a good team, a good counter-attacking team”. Meanwhile, last season’s Champions League quarter-finalists Monaco are out of Europe altogether.

With Chelsea struggling in the bottom half, and league leaders Leicester City likely to slip out of the top four eventually, it seems Liverpool will possibly face a straight fight with Tottenham Hotspur for the remaining Champions League place.

Origi then had the best opportunity of the game as Can fired a pass forward in an attempt to find Adam Lallana the ball bobbled through to the Belgian but he was thwarted by the onrushing Andris Vanins in the Sion net. “But tonight they have to win to go through and if we win we finish first in the group and that’s what we want to do”. Hence, it is impossible to tell at this point, what Klopp’s actual plan for the game will be.

Schalke ended the group stage unbeaten after a 4-0 victory away to Asteras Tripolis in Group K but already qualified Dortmund lost 1-0 at home to PAOK in Group C.

Lucas Leiva, Joe Allen and Alberto Moreno have all remained at Melwood, while Jordon Ibe is out with a virus.

“The injury is not that serious”.

However, Alberto Moreno has started to improve under Klopp’s guidance and has made the position his own in recent weeks. Jordan Rossiter is fit again, while captain Jordan Henderson will be looking to get more game time in order to build match fitness.

Liverpool will fly home on Friday ahead of Sunday’s Premier League match with West Brom, but appear to have all of their players who featured in Switzerland available for selection, to Klopp’s relief: “It was hard; the ground was very hard to play and for both teams the first thing to do was show you were prepared for a game like this and that is what my team did”.

“We have [Christian] Benteke, [Divock] Origi and [Roberto] Firmino”. Despite the poor performance, Liverpool have just as good a chance as ever to go on and win this competition.

Henderson completed 77 minutes during a dismal goalless draw, secured on a semi-frozen pitch, to hand Klopp some welcome injury news following the England midfielder’s extended absence because of a heel problem.
