Philippe Coutinho ‘suffering’ at Liverpool amid £22m Barcelona interest

Barcelona football director Robert Fernandez has refused to rule out a January move for Philipe Coutinho after admitting the Liverpool star is “a good player with very good conditions”.

Spanish newspaper Sport earlier this week claimed that Coutinho has been earmarked by the Catalan club as the ideal man to fill the gap left by the summer departure of Pedro Rodriguez to Chelsea.

However, Fernandez has now played down talk of the Catalan giants moving for the 23-year-old when their transfer ban ends in January.

“He’s a great player with fantastic attributes, but we’re also keeping an eye on other players”, the sporting director told Cadena SER in an interview.

“I heard what Neymar said but I want to do well with Liverpool”.

The club have had to introduce the likes of homegrown talents Sergi Roberto, Munir and Sandro over the a year ago due to their transfer embargo which may be the reason for their caution.

Coutinho has enjoyed a brief spell already in La Liga, having played for Espanyol in 2012 for half a season while owned by Inter, but Barca is where he wishes to head to next.
