Duterte, who served seven terms as mayor of Davao city, has been dubbed “The Punisher” and “The Dirty Harry of Davao” for his reputation as a crime-crushing mayor.
“FPI sincerely congratulates President Duterte as well as the other elected officials who are all enjoined to steward the country in a manner that is for the best interest of the people and the country”, it said.
The religious congregation has about 6 million members and they believe that if Jesus was the saviour of the Jews, then Quiboloy is the saviour of the non-Jews. “No middle ground. As long as the requirements of the law are there, if you try to evade arrest, refuse arrest and you put up a good fight or resist violently, I will say: “Kill them”. “You heard that? Shoot to kill for every organized crime”, he added. “I will hit hard on drugs and I promise them [criminals] hell”, Duterte said as he outlined his vision for the nation.
The 71-year-old Duterte who stirred controversy during campaigning with his incendiary comments has credited his success to his tough stance on law and order.
The controversial presumptive president, who was making his first policy pronouncements since winning last week’s election based on an unofficial count, said that capital punishment by hanging should be imposed for crimes such as murder, robbery and rape. “Or simply you are not working, in which case I will suspend you”.
The president-elect of the Philippines is promising to reintroduce the death penalty and use military snipers as part of a crackdown aimed at ending crime within six months of taking office.
In typical campaign bravado he said 100,000 people would die and so many bodies would be dumped in Manila Bay that the fish would grow fat.
Mr Duterte went on to say that those convicted of more than one crime would be hanged twice.
Mr Duterte also cancelled plans to visit the Vatican to personally apologise for calling the pope a “son of a w***e”.
Mr Duterte sent an apology letter to the pope during the campaign and received a response from the Vatican offering “the assurance of prayers”.
