Philippines clears up streets before main events — APEC meetings

The administration has tidied up the lanes along the avenue and offered money as an incentives to the assessed 20,000 homeless living there to inspire them to leave the zone in readiness for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings one week from now.

On the eve of the summit, former President Fidel V. Ramos ruled out any foreign-based terrorist attack during the Apec summit, but said police and the military needed to intensify their intelligence gathering against the Abu Sayyaf Group.
