The Philippines stock market bucked the regional trend today, down 0.6% even though other emerging Asian countries from China to India rallied on weak U.S. August jobs data.
The announcement came Tuesday during President Barack Obama’s visit to Laos. He had been scheduled to meet Obama separately on Tuesday, but the White House canceled the meeting. Annual deaths fell from more than 300 to fewer than 50 in that period.
In one of the last acts of his so-called “pivot” to Asia, Obama is expected to announce greater help in clearing bombs dropped by USA forces on Laos during the Vietnam War.
