The President said De Lima’s former driver and alleged lover – whom he did not name – collected money for her from convicted drug lords at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).

Duterte in his speech during the 115th service anniversary of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Camp Crame on August 17, mentioned that de Lima accepted drug money from the Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa.

Sky News met Marissa Resido, a mother of six from the Tondo slums – her husband Rolando was a meth user, and was killed by police hours after they took him away to “surrender”.

Abella said the “seeming incomprehension by local and worldwide observers” was “more alarming than the pandemic use and trade of illegal drugs in the Philippines”.

“If you are that disrespectful, son of a whore, then I will just leave you”, Duterte said in a press conference in his home city of Davao that started about 1:00 am.

The crackdown since Duterte took office in late June has seen over 650 police killings – deaths Duterte and his top police officer, Roland Dela Rosa say are justified self-defense killings – alongside as many as 900 unexplained murders perpetrated by suspected vigilantes.

“Kung ganon kayo kabastos, umalis na kami diyan sa inyo [If you are that insulting, we should just leave]”, he said.

“I appreciate it. I told the Chinese we will remember you for the things that you are doing for us”.

Duterte also belittled United Nations work in the Philippines without providing facts, raising questions, for example, about the performance of the world body’s agency that fights hunger.

“So take us out of your organization. I would invite maybe China, the African (nations)”, said President Duterte. The U.N., he said, should return Manila’s financial contributions. I tell you, you are [useless].

When asked why cabinet officials are not included, Mr Duterte said: “It is too early for them to be corrupted”.

Duterte wondered whether United Nations officials were threatening to put him in prison and repeated that he was ready to sacrifice his life and presidency for his country.

During his election campaign, he promised to kill 100,000 people and dump so many bodies in Manila Bay that fish would get fat from feeding on them. “Answer that question, because even if it’s just one or two or three, it is still human rights violations”.

The media have tallied almost 700 killings since Duterte took over the presidency since June 30. The arrests have further overwhelmed the Philippines’ overcrowded jails.
