About $124 billion dollars is wasted in time and fuel due to traffic congestion on USA roads, or about $1,700 per household.
Colorado Springs ranked in the top 10 for best cities to be a driver, according to Wallethub’s 2015’s Best & Worst Cities to be a Driver list. Philadelphia is right in the mix with Boston (94), New York (100), Washington, D.C. (99), Baltimore (92), San Francisco (97), Detroit (96), Chicago (93) and Los Angeles (91). Average gas prices – for the Philadelphia-Wilmington-Atlantic City statistical region, now $2.739/gallon (BLS data as of May 2015)-and the average time lost to traffic annually were also factors in the final ranking.
WalletHub looked at a pretty robust number of variables to come to that determination: costs (gas, insurance, etc), traffic and road conditions, safety (number of accidents, rate of auto thefts, etc), and driver and auto wellness (aka the availability of resources like auto washes and dealerships). Well, New York, NY unsurprisingly topped the list.
