Police said Glasser was married and that he and his wife had two small children.

Chief Joseph Yahner said members of the team are called for a wide variety of issues, from plain clothes investigations to big events.

Officer David Glasser, 35, was pronounced dead at a hospital a day after the violent confrontation in the driveway of a residence that left the suspect dead at the scene.

“Arizona is in mourning today over the passing of one of our finest – Phoenix Police Officer David Glasser”.

“They did everything they could to place Officer Glasser in a position of safety and rendered aid”, Yahner said.

Phoenix Police said Thursday morning that Glasser had succumbed to his injuries. It means a great deal to our officers. “He’s a good man and our prayers are with him right now”.

Investigators say Glasser and his partner responded after a homeowner called 911 and reported his son was stealing guns. That’s when the suspect opened fire at the officers. As many as six officers returned fire, Yahner said. “It’s in our neighborhood. It’s scary, I have kids too”.
