Phoenix Police Officer Shot Mulitple Times During Traffic Stop, In Serious

The officer was shot after initiating the stop in central Phoenix around 2:45 a.m. near 12th Street and Campbell Avenue, Phoenix police Sgt.

The officer, an 8-year-veteran of the police force, is in serious condition, but is expected to survive.

Phoenix Police Chief Joseph Yahner said Wednesday the officer could be dead if he wasn’t wearing his bulletproof vest.

A Phoenix police officer is in serious condition after he was shot repeatedly during a traffic stop early Wednesday morning, authorities said. Jonathan Howard said, according to CNN. Details on his injuries were not released immediately.

Officials have located the suspect’s vehicle but are still searching for the gunman and a passenger. Police believe two people were in the auto. “One of the suspects is described as a heavy set white man that may be armed with a rifle”.

The shooting occurred in a largely residential area about four miles north of downtown.
