Phoenix police: Officers struck by vehicle; driver in custody

Early this Tuesday morning around 2 a.m., three Phoenix police officers were injured after 44-year-old Marc Payne assaulted them with his vehicle.

Authorities said the officers had just completed a call and were standing in the parking lot debriefing the incident when a driver intentionally drove his vehicle into them. The two hit had serious but not life threatening injuries. Police said the man then violently struggled with the officers for several minutes before being taken into custody. A third officer jumped out of the way, but was injured in a struggle while arresting Payne. ANd an officer with just one day of training suffered a head injury. Three officers were rushed to the hospital.

“We have all heard about officers being targeted and ambushed in communities across this nation”, Yahner said.
