Photos needed for 80 Vietnam war heroes from Mobile County

November 11 was originally observed as Armistice Day, celebrating the end of World War I on November 11, 1918.

Wednesday night, American Legion Post 210 will host the 96th annual Veteran’s Banquet at the Fulton Senior Center at 6:30 p.m. Army Colonel Chad Skaggs of Huntsville, AL will be speaking.

Veterans Day, or Armistice Day as it was once known, was first celebrated in 1919 – a day set aside to remember the soldiers who lost their lives fighting what was thought to be “the war to end all wars”.

Bond pros are off for Veterans Day on Wednesday. “In fact, Veterans Day is largely meant to thank LIVING veterans for their service, to acknowledge that their contributions to our national security are appreciated, and to underscore the fact that all those who served – not only those who died – have sacrificed and done their duty”.

Many Raytheon employees are also veterans.

As an ongoing project, the city is asking its World War II veterans to write letters about their experiences and stating what their dreams and hopes for the future are. Thus the 83rd Congress officially struck the word “Armistice” and replaced it with the word, “Veterans”.

Finally, a big thank-you to all the people who were at the Fargo airport to give us a spectacular reception on our return from the Honor Flight.

Each veteran, no matter what war or conflict they served, paid a price. We are used to “service before self”. It is unfathomable for us that each night in America, there are 50,000 homeless veterans and an additional 1.4 million at risk of being homeless due to poverty, a lack of support networks, and substandard living conditions.

Many have sacrificed their physical and mental health, and faced hardships as they returned to civilian life. The official ceremony begins at 10 a.m. Though both holidays honor military personnel, Memorial Day is a day to remember and pay tribute to soldiers who died in battle or due to a wound sustained in one. Every citizen’s debt to veterans is great, and we should take this opportunity to sincerely show our gratitude for all they have done for us and our country.

Got Your 6 – a campaign that unites veteran-focused nonprofits, the entertainment industry and government partners to elevate the conversation about veterans – in conjunction with Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research, just released a study illustrating that a more compelling message about veterans is starting to take root. This year, come support past and current troops and make an appearance at the Veterans Day Ceremony.

Letter: Hope to carry memories forever
