Phyllis Schlafly on Paul Ryan: ‘Get Rid of Him’

“He’s had a pretty unusual run since the convention”, Ryan told host Jerry Bader on WTAQ radio. “You would think we’d ought to be focusing on Hillary Clinton and all of her deficiencies”, Ryan said.

He also said that Trump has had “a pretty unusual run since the convention” in Cleveland last month and that it’s a shame that Republicans aren’t focusing on Hillary Clinton. He said he was “viciously attacked” by the family and questioned why Ghazala Khan, Humayun Khan’s mother, remained silent onstage, suggesting that she wasn’t allowed to speak because she is Muslim. Regardless, Mr. Trump told the Washington post that he had no regrets about his words.

“[Trump] strongly encouraged me to endorse Paul Ryan in next Tuesday’s primary and I’m pleased to do it”, he told Fox News.

“Nothing’s a blank check”.

“But I want to make clear to you that there’s really nothing more that I can add to the very strong feelings I have about my family, my friends and their sacrifice, and the fact that you not only have to respect but love the family members who have made these sacrifices”, he said.

Pence said that he discussed his endorsement of Ryan with Trump on Wednesday morning. In an interview with The Washington Post, Trump said, “I like Paul, but these are frightful times for our country”. After he endorsed Trump, Ryan told reporters in June that he still opposed the ban. Ryan’s underdog primary challenger Paul Nehlen said Tuesday that Ryan has betrayed Trump in “an act of sabotage against our party”. We need very, very strong leadership. Ted Cruz (Tex.) or Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who both lost in the primaries to Trump but are eyeing another run in 2020.

Republicans now say Mr. Trump’s obstinacy in addressing perhaps the gravest crisis of his campaign may trigger drastic defections within the party, and Republican lawmakers and strategists have begun to entertain abandoning him en masse. Trump has feuded with McCain over the Arizona senator’s handling of veterans issues and Ayotte has claimed she is not endorsing Trump, though she supports him.

Of McCain, whom he’d previously criticized for being taken captive in Vietnam, Trump said: “I’ve never been there with John McCain because I’ve always felt that he should have done a much better job for the vets”.

Speaking with Business Insider on Tuesday evening, Nehlen called Ryan a “soulless globalist” but expressed skepticism that Trump would come to his aid with an endorsement.

Trump is livid about their criticism on the Senators’ criticism in the Humayan Khan case.

Nehlen said the problem with vetting good Muslims from the bad is that they couldn’t be trusted.

Nehlen’s campaign has the largest concentration of former Trump campaigners.

Ryan, who accused Nehlen of misrepresenting and lying about his record in Congress, is expected to win his primary race next week.
