Pierce Brosnan on Spectre: ‘It kind of went on too long’

The film opens with a sequence in Mexico on the Day of the Dead that culminates with a thrilling fight on a helicopter. With cinematically stunning auto chases, handsome Bond girls and exciting drama, “Spectre” included everything we have come expect from a Bond movie – no more and no less.

Moviegoers across the world have watched the suave British spy James Bond make love to unspeakably attractive women and fight evil on screen for over 50 years.

Spectre’s script (penned by John Logan, Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, and Jez Butterworth) follows a basic formula used many times before. Even so, it is still on track to be the second highest grossing Bond film ever, and should still bring in an audience this weekend despite facing The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 starting on November 20. One person of particular note, however, has a less-than-glowing response to the picture, and that’s James Bond himself.

Now, in a rare case of Bond-on-Bond criticism, Brosnan is giving his own thoughts on “Spectre” – and the comments may leave Craig shaken and stirred.

The new James Bond movie starring Daniel Craig has broken previous record set by “Skyfall” on Tuesday and one of the primary reasons could be lack of any competing releases. Brosnan’s advice to keep Craig in the role was more telling, as well.

Of course whether or not Craig will return to the franchise has been a point of fevered speculation, especially after the actor’s sarcasm-“I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists” than do another Bond movie-was misinterpreted by media. Following a merger with MI5, idealistic and conniving C (Andrew Scott) wants to terminate the double-O program and replace the human agents with drones and other technological advances. Moore’s version of Bond was different from Ian Fleming, and was seen as a more comical character.

As far as lack of emotion, the characters in many scenes seem to have no motivation for their actions.

It is unclear whether Craig will continue as Bond. If Craig’s tenure ends here, he leaves behind a terrific self-contained sub-series that is unique among the franchise.
