One of the paper’s columnists, Richard Kay, says Matthews got down on one knee while they were visiting the picturesque Lake District and proposed to Middleton.

Pippa Middleton, Kate Middleton’s sister, is engaged to her longtime millionaire boyfriend, James Matthews. Matthews came back into the picture later that year, and was spotted on vacation with Middleton and her younger brother James Middleton in St. Bart’s. Miss Middleton was the maid of honour when the duchess married Prince William in 2011.
“Kate is so happy for Pippa”, the insider says.
“James Matthews are delighted to announce they became engaged on Sunday 17th July and plan to marry next year”, the couple said in a statement released by the Press Association.
According to The Daily Mail, the two briefly dated in 2012, were apart for three years, and then reunited in September 2015. The rumors of the impending nuptials began when Middleton stepped out with her new sparkler on THAT finger on Monday. A Cambridge spokesman said that the royal couple is absolutely delighted with the news and have given their blessings to the duo.

Given that Kate was marrying into royalty it made sense for her “last night of freedom” to be a quiet and sophisticated one.
