Pirates Pitcher Takes 105 MPH Line-Drive To Head, Stays In Game

The Milwaukee Brewers improved their record to 40-52 on the season following a 9-5 win at PNC Park in Pittsburgh on Wednesday night.

The Pirates’ game against the Brewers came to a terrifying halt in the second inning on Tuesday. The 32-year-old is 2-3 with a 4.35 ERA in nine career starts against the Pirates. Taillon lay on the ground for several minutes after getting hit by a shot off Perez’s bat in the second inning but was allowed to remain in the game after getting cleared by Tomczyk and team doctor Edward Snell. Taillon held the Brewers to one run in six innings on Tuesday night.

“Still obviously not what I want to do”, Anderson said.

The Pirates, of course, won’t say that publicly and risk devaluing Locke even more in the eyes of other teams. “Hitting is contagious, not hitting is contagious, regardless of what people say….” He was able to stay in the game somehow. But Jared Hughes limited the damage to just a run when he walked Carter with two outs on four pitches.

Anyway, the Pirates’ offense – led by David Freese, Starling Marte and Jordy Mercer – was good enough, but Locke and A.J. Schugel (who allowed three runs in the sixth) dug holes too deep for the Pirates’ hitters to climb out of. Anderson has issued a career-high five walks in each of his last two starts, both losses to St. Louis.

Locke seemed like he might be that guy when he went 3-0 with a 3.57 ERA in his previous four starts and also pitching 2 1/3 scoreless relief innings against the Chicago Cubs on July 10 in the last game before the All-Star break.

“I saw (Milwaukee center fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis) jump for the wall, and from there I never broke stride”, Harrison said.

“We’d like to get him a little more efficient with his pitches, but I thought he rebounded from that second inning, which was important”. “We’re in these games, and we’ve got to keep grinding and eventually we’ll run into some win streaks”.
