Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone says he has “done a deal” with Pirelli to continue as the sport’s tyre supplier until 2019.

Pirelli have confirmed the tyres that will be used through till the end of the season, for the remaining USA, Mexican, Brazilian and Abu Dhabi Grand Prix events. The process to the formal FIA official nomination will follow with its procedure. “We’ve got a bit of contract writing to do now, that will keep the lawyers busy for a little while, and then four years in front of us”.

“We are going ahead”, Tronchetti Provera confirmed to Italian broadcaster Sky.

However, as anticipated, FOM and the FIA have favoured retaining ties with Pirelli after Michelin’s pitch for creating tyres that favour sturdiness was not favourably acquired by the business rights holder.
