According to ABC7 news the man then pulled out a knife and stabbed the dog five times, leaving him for dead on the street.
– A stray pit bull has been given the appropriate name, “Hero”, after being credited with saving a woman’s life.
The fearless canine was rushed to an emergency vet by police officers who named him Hero for his sacrifice.
Welch also said: ‘For those two officers to go to the extent they did to save him is very heroic and very awesome’.
Welch heard about Hero’s story on Facebook. He nearly died twice during surgery, but survived.
She discovered what happened to the dog via social media and raised money for treatment, the station reported.

After the vet discounted the cost of surgery, Carla Welch, who runs a pit bull rescue, stepped in to help. Hero is now up for adoption. She says despite the traumatic injuries, the seven-year-old pit bull is laid back and likes people. He has had a bum back leg and a bum front leg, but he gets around fine and he’s looking for a good friend’.
