Four pit bulls mauled a 4-year-old Detroit boy to death in front of his mother, after yanking him away while she was walking him to school in their neighborhood. Three of the four pit bulls were shot by the police; the fourth one is in custody, according to Sgt. Cassandra Lewis.

Police shot two of the dogs and were able to capture them. “They have my baby!” yelled the child’s distraught mother, reported the Detroit Free Press.
Neighbors stepped in and screamed, used mace on the dogs and tried to fight them off using a brick and a club.
“The cop had to open fire to at least get the dogs off the baby”, said another witness, Yolanda Samuels.
Samuels added to Fox 2 Detroit: ‘When I saw them carrying her baby, all I could do is grab my baby and say “Oh my God” because he (was) lifeless.
Craig said officers who responded to the attack were severely shaken and counselors will be made available to help them deal with the trauma.
“We believe the animals were pit bulls”.
‘It’s pretty much an open-and-shut case, ‘ Lewis said.
The names of the victim and the dogs’ owner have not been disclosed. “It appears the dogs may have belonged to a neighbor”.

Charges will likely be laid against the owner pending the outcome of the investigation. Police said he’s cooperating.
