Truex Jr. won the Bojangles’ Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway Sunday night. The first time was another crown jewel race at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Coca-Cola 600 back on Memorial weekend in May.
Truex stamped himself as a contender to be reckoned with when the Sprint Cup playoffs start in two weeks. “I always loved this race track”, Truex said.
But by maintaining his top 10 run and staying towards the front close to the leaders, Truex Jr. and his team were able to get him to the front and lead the race all the way to checkered flag.
“We have championship cars and we’re just mediocre on pit road”.
Truex pulled up to the inside wall to greet his crew after the win, then taking off for some celebration donuts at the track “Too Tough To Tame”.
Instead, Harvick’s victory bid came undone due to three late pit stops that saw him lose a total of 17 positions on pit road.
Kevin Harvick finished second after leading a race-high 213 laps.
Now is the time of the season to continue starting those Chase for the Sprint Cup bubble drivers. “I’m over being a cheerleader. Those guys get paid a lot of money to perform on pit road and cheerleading really hasn’t been working”, he said. He was still running second when the caution came out – and this time, his team got him on and off pit road in a timely manner.
Kevin Harvick is once again frustrated about his pit crew.
After Trucks win, fight: BOWMANVILLE, Ontario – John Hunter Nemechek knocked Cole Custer from the lead to earn the win in a controversial finish in the NASCAR Truck Series at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. It was worth the wait.
Among active drivers, Jimmie Johnson leads with three Cup triumphs at Darlington. And that No. 78 team gave him 11s on pit road all night long.
With two races left before the cutoff, Buescher leads Ragan by seven points for the all-important 30th spot.
“Hey man, I made it 25 races”, Stewart said on his radio.
Jeff Gordon is mostly retired and Tony Stewart is nearly out the door. The three-time series champ making his final run at Darlington was trying to get out lapped auto Brian Scott.
If the GIF is any indication, the Stewart-Haas Racing driver is truly grabbing the bull by the horns – so watch out fellow Chase competitors. At that point, Keselowski was trying to lap Casey Mears when he slid up the track and Harvick moved inside of him and back into the lead.
“I have a daughter that I’ve got to answer to, so the way I handle my business is there are a lot of people looking at that and as I’m a dad now I kind of have to think about that”, he said.
NASCAR on Wednesday also docked 15 points from Kyle Larson, but he’s already qualified for the chase. Stewart was summoned to the NASCAR hauler following the race.
“This is unbelieveable”, Truex said.

Matt Kenseth, Edwards’s teammate at Joe Gibbs Racing, will bring back the Tide vehicle that was driven to victory lane 20 times between 1987 and 2006 by icons such as Hall of Famer Darrell Waltrip, Ricky Rudd, and Ricky Craven.
