CLEVELAND – Corey Kluber lost for the first time since July 3 after Marwin Gonzalez connected for a three-run homer off Cleveland’s ace in the second inning, leading the Houston Astros over the Indians 4-3 on Tuesday night.

Mets 5, Reds 3 – At Cincinnati: Yoenis Cespedes hit the most damaging of New York’s four homers, a two-run shot in the seventh inning, as the Mets rallied for their 13th straight win over Cincinnati. Entering the game, St. Louis pinch hitters had a collective.347 batting average, which would set a National League season record.

The Cardinals’ Yadier Molina scored in the sixth to make it 3-3.

The first-place Nationals remained 8 1/2 games ahead of the New York Mets in the National League East. But during the first two matchups this year, Kang flied out every time and had no notable hits to speak of. We’ve got some guys that are not quite having the seasons they’ve had in the past. Carpenter said Mabry made his living off pinch hitting and has given a good solid approach to the young players on the team who end up pinch hitting often and even the veterans who have been here a while. “It’s good to get back out there”.

Like Kang, closer Tony Watson hasn’t experienced success that Pirates fans and himself have become accustomed to day in and day out. Kang hit his 15th home run in the fourth and his 16th in the ninth.

Adam Duvall hit his 30th home run of the season for Cincinnati, which has dropped 13 straight to the Mets dating to September 7, 2014. Opponents have outscored them 47-22 during the slide, including a 12-6 setback on Monday night in which the Cardinals simply overpowered Pittsburgh’s struggling pitching staff.

“You don’t think you’re going to throw your very first pitch and the guy’s going to swing at it and then it’s going to be an error”, Williams said. Kang then stepped up and drilled a 0-2 fastball for his second home run of the game. Cardinals scored in the first on Pirates rookie Jameson Taillon to give Leake at least a 1-0 lead before he took the hill.

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny was unhappy with the squandered chances. “We’ve got a team that I don’t think anybody wants to match up with, especially in a postseason scenario”.

Taillon induced a double play to limit the damage, though, and the Pirates scored two in the bottom of the first, with Gregory Polanco and Jung Ho Kang hitting run-scoring singles. Right fielder Adam Frazier had the Molina fly ball until taking his eye of the ball at the last second before the ball grazed the thumb of his glove and fell to the ground allowing Molina to get to second base.

Rebounding right-hander Clay Buchholz allowed one run over 6 2/3 innings as Boston defeated San Diego at Petco Park to move back into a tie for the American League East lead.

TIGERS 5, WHITE SOX 3 (11) Justin Upton hit a three-run home run in the 11th inning to lift visiting Detroit over Chicago for its 11th victory in 14 games.
