However, the Steelers (0-2) will be without seven players for their home opener against the Packers (1-0). Inside linebacker Lawrence Timmons, who made the Pro Bowl previous year , will not play after missing all week of practices with turf toe, although Tomlin said he is not overly concerned about it.

Golson, taken 56th overall in the draft, has been on the team’s physically unable to perform list since the start of training camp.

Head coach Mike Tomlin said Senquez Golson, a cornerback out of Mississippi, had surgery on his shoulder Friday and his status will be evaluated later on.

Tomlin said he did not want to speculate how long Golson will be out because he hasn’t had a chance to talk to the doctors following surgery. “But, being a young guy and being in this environment, we thought there was a lot to be gleaned from that”.

“I can’t wait to spend time with my wife and my daughter and sleep in my own bed, I think that’s the most important thing for me is sleeping in my own bed”, Beachum said. He played left tackle in the first two games and will play on the right Sunday. Third-year backup Landry Jones has played the vast majority of the team’s snaps thus far in the preseason while Gradkowski was dealing with a shoulder injury.

“We expect to play more experienced players in special teams than we have in the first couple of opportunities”, said Tomlin. “We had some interest in Boykin regardless”.

Golson was a full participant in organized training activities and minicamp during the spring but showed up to camp at Saint Vincent College with the shoulder issue.
