Pizza Hut delivers the world’s first playable DJ pizza box

Pizza Hut is no stranger to attention-grabbing gimmicks, having recently rolled out robotic staff members at one of its restaurants in Asia, but we can’t help but be impressed with what it’s served up on this occasion. Novalia, a company more than a little familiar with printed electronics, is behind the actual functionality of the box, according to Fact Magazine.

The specialty cardboard pizza box, created by Novalia, a United Kingdom -based tech company, is outfitted with touch-sensitive decks, a mixer and buttons that control volume and pitch. The touch-sensitive ink can interpret taps, long presses and swipes, Pizza Hut explains. Here’s how: the decks are Bluetooth compatible which means you can sync them to your smartphone or laptop via software like Serato and use the MIDI feature to assign each button on the decks to the corresponding ones on your chosen software. An additional scratch function is used by moving a hand across one of the virtual turntables. However Pizza Hut UK seems to have taken things to the next level by creating a pizza box that actually doubles up as a pair of turntables, which you can actually see for yourself in action in the video above.
