PK Subban to donate $10 million to Montreal Hospital
Montreal Canadiens defenceman P.K. Subban and his foundation have pledged at least $10 million to the Montreal Children’s Hospital. The hospital renamed its atrium after the player in gratitude.

The 26-year old alternate captain signed an eight-year, $72 million contract with Montreal last August.
It was announced on Wednesday that Subban will be making a significant donation to the children’s hospital in Montreal.
Critics also point to Subban’s defensive zone coverage, but Travis Green, who coaches the AHL’s Utica Comets and was behind the Canucks’ bench at the recent Young Stars rookie tournament, said that’s normal for most players at this stage of their careers.
Michel Lacroix, known as the voice of the Montreal Canadians, hosted the press conference to which assisted Jean Béliveau’s widow, Élise Béliveau, as well as P.K. Subban’s family.
Those that have followed Subban’s off-ice exploits will know that he goes out of his way to help children, notably through his charity supporting local hockey with Hyundai’s Hockey Helpers, a program that helps thousands of kids afford hockey equipment around the country.
He didn’t tell reporters what they were hoping to hear. Though Subban was stuck in traffic and thus late for the beginning of the announcement, reports CBC, he made it in time to walk into a standing ovation and chants of “P.K.!”
“Just as much as it’s important to take care of your body and work out and stay in good shape, it’s also important to dress well”.
“It’s not what you get in life, but it’s what you give…that’s what teachers do”.
“It is really an wonderful feeling to be here”, said P.K. Subban.

Subban, who was drafted by the Canadiens in 2007 and won the James Norris Trophy as the NHL’s best defenceman in 2013, is entering his sixth full season with the team.
