Plane catches fire just before take off from Fort Lauderdale airport

The Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood global Airport is has been closed down after a plane caught fire on the runway on Thursday at about 12:45 p.m. ET.

The Sun Sentinel and other on line sources are reporting that a Dynamic global Airway’s passenger jet is on fire at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood worldwide Airport.

Soon afterward, one of the craft’s engines caught fire, officials said.

The Associated Press said flames engulfed one engine on the Dynamic Airways Boeing 767. Passengers evacuated the Boeing 767 by sliding on chutes onto the runway.

Fire crews raced to the scene and immediately began firing water onto the blazing plane.

Broward Aviation Department spokesman Allan Siegeo said the fire was extinguished by rescue teams on site.

It is unknown how many passengers were on board or how serious the injuries may be.

“There is no fire now”, he said, adding that the plane was quickly evacuated.

The plane was scheduled to depart for Venezuela, Reuters reports citing CNN.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

Dynamic Airways was founded in 2010 and its headquarters are in Greensboro, North Carolina.
