Plane crash kills 1, hurts 2
The crash happened about 1 p.m.at the Boone Golf Course on Fairway Drive.

A small plane crashed Monday afternoon on a golf course in Boone, NC.
According to Boone Police, the single-engine aircraft took off from the Boone Airport and crashed moments later. One of the two men was initially flown to Johnson City, Tennessee before being transported to Baptist. Witnesses on the golf course reported the plane appeared to be in distress, clipping several trees before crashing onto the golf course. The man was pronounced dead by the medical examiner who arrived approximately 45 minutes prior to the briefing, Crawford said.
Sgt. Matt Stevens says the names or conditions of the victims aren’t yet known.

Ben Chappell, 69 years old, was killed in the crash. Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board are expected to being their investigation Tuesday morning. Robbins said Chappell was a retired state trooper.
