Plane found, 2 still missing after crash in New Orleans lake

The crash happened north of Lakefront Airport and involved a small plane that went down into the lake.

According to the NOFD, crews located the wreckage of the plane, around 4 p.m. Sunday. The woman’s condition is unknown at this time and she remains hospitalized for further medical care.

New Orleans police are now saying what they thought was the wreckage from a plane that crashed into Lake Pontchartrain late Saturday is not, calling it “unrelated debris”.

The Coast Guard said that a good Samaritan rescued the person from the water.

He says the fire department’s fireboat carried divers from the police department’s dive team out to help the Coast Guard.

The crash was reported just before 9 p.m. Saturday.

On Saturday evening a small Cessna airplane carrying three passengers crashed into Lake Pontchartrain extremely close to the runway of New Orleans’s Lakefront Airport and on Sunday afternoon recovery crews were still out in their numbers in the area.

The person was transferred to a Coast Guard boat and taken for treatment.
