Plane makes emergency landing on highway, causes heavy traffic delays

He headed to Fort Lauderdale for enterprise on Thursday morning and was on his remaining strategy into Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood worldwide Airport round eight:50 a.m. when he was advised to circle round.

“I just ran out of fuel”, he said hours later as he waited alongside the interstate for his plane to be towed.

It’s unclear what caused the plane to land on the busy road.

As a result, Davie Police were diverting all traffic from 595 westbound to exit onto State Road 84, as all lanes of 595 were closed beyond Nob Hill Rd.

Mr Richmond, from Grand Rapids, Michigan, has been flying for six years but only bought the plane a couple of weeks ago.

Richmond said he’s practiced emergency landings and this one was nearly picture-perfect. Only the pilot was on board the aircraft, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. There was damage to a beige Honda located directly behind the plane.

The FAA is en route to the scene and will investigate the landing.

“It’s awesome. At 8:45 a.m., to put it down on that highway and to only hit one vehicle”, Wysocky said.
