Planned Parenthood has opened a new health centre in West Hollywood, four days after a deadly shooting at one of its family planning clinics in Colorado.
“Since then, it’s been a veritable feeding frenzy on who can be more over-the-top in their anti-Planned Parenthood rhetoric”, said Amy Runyan-Harms with the political group ProgressNow Colorado.
The man accused of killing three people at a Colorado Planned Parenthood clinic brought several guns, ammunition and propane tanks that officials say he assembled around a vehicle. The officials said Dear’s “rantings” also included comments about politics and President Barack Obama.
As lawmakers headed back to Congress after the holiday break, it remains unclear how Friday’s shooting will affect the congressional investigations into Planned Parenthood, including the special House subcommittee that former Speaker John Boenher announced in October.
Mayor Lindsey P. Horvath is scheduled to attend.

Planned Parenthood officials say a growing climate of rancor surrounding abortion has set the stage for such violence.
Robert Lewis Dear, the 57-year-old man suspected of opening fire in a Planned Parenthood health center in Colorado Springs last week, appeared before a judge Monday afternoon.

The nonprofit organization keeps confidential the details of its protection efforts but is maintaining normal hours and operations in the area, Ms. Cavalier said. Documents from the case say that Dear showed up at the house of a woman he had been pursuing, despite the fact that she said she was married. And it was horrific, it was evil and we will find out more about the facts, but I don’t think we should jump to conclusions.
