Play Stephen Colbert’s Text-Based Adventure Game for Free Now

If you have ever wanted to play a text adventure game starring Stephen Colbert, you’re in luck. Even though the responses are predetermined and don’t require any actual typing, Escape From The Man-Sized Cabinet is still a fairly surprising and well thought out text adventure. Become Stephen Colbert himself, get stuck in a cabinet, and then decide whether or not to “try and leave” or “stand here for 8 hours”.

I won’t explain what happens inside Escape from the Man-sized Cabinet, because there’s nothing quite as humorless as explaining a joke. Among the fun little things you can do include checking Colbert’s to-do list which, if you’ve been watching his promotional videos for the show so far, you’ll know that the items on it can be a bit… fanciful, to put it mildly. Or you can explore a place that’s basically Narnia.

While the game is short and simple to play, the words and scenario are very Colbert-esque, to the point you can nearly hear him in your head narrating said game.

The game was created using the open-source tool Twine, which allows anyone with an imagination (and a lot of time) to create similar text-based adventures. Go on and experience the exciting life of legendary adventurer Stephen Colbert!
