Playing as Animals in WiLD
It’s been a while since Michel Ancel worked on a title that didn’t involve the Rayman IP. However, his newest game, WiLD, is being developed by his independent studio, in conjunction with Sony, leading many to speculate that maybe he had ended his relationship with Ubisoft.

Wild puts players in the role of a tribal shaman, who explores a vast wilderness and is in tune with his surroundings. In fact, the adventure game’s protagonist is so closely attuned to the environment around him that he has the ability to commune with and possess practically every creature-each of which have different abilities of their own-to aid him in quests. The snake is required to summon a godlike being that will help the shaman create an antidote to help a person in his village. While they’re distracted, he then rides into the village on a bear to fight them.
Upon reaching the snake sanctuary it is discovered there are a group of cannibals there.
Ancel stressed that everything shown was part of the game’s emergent world.
Ancel is also believed to be (slowly) still working on Beyond Good & Evil 2, although we haven’t had an update on that in a while (again). If that’s indeed the case, let’s hope that he’s able to successfully juggle both projects at once.
Although WiLD takes us to what’s now a trendy pre-historic setting (Far Cry: Primal, Horizon Zero Dawn), it’s the mechanics of the game that make this so special.
