Most of the early season schedule remains as it was this year, the sources said, but things get interesting following the U.S. Open (June 16-19) at Oakmont.

“It’s important from a worldwide standpoint, and I think it’s important to the game of golf that we work around the Olympics because it’s only once every four years”, said Jason Bohn, one of four player directors on the policy board which met on Monday at the Quicken Loans National. The Travelers Championship, instead of happening the week after the U.S. Open, will move to August 1-7.

Normally, the PRO/AM is played in the middle of July following the John Deere Classic. The new date will allow officials time to assure the enhancements are completed for next season’s event.

“To be able to do that it just gives me a lot more confidence going in to the rest of the season”.

Jordan Spieth, who won the John Deere three weeks ago before coming up a shot short in his quest for the third leg of the Grand Slam at St. Andrews, would be unable to defend his title there if he were to played for the United States in the Olympics, which are scheduled for August 11-14, 2016, in Brazil.

“We will embrace our 2016 date with an eye toward delivering the kind of compelling and dramatic golf tournament that our local fans and TV golf viewers around the world have come to expect”, Peterson said.

The Olympic field will include 60 players but will likely be top-heavy with star players. The game’s number one player in the world is sidelined indefinitely, but golf is in such good hands now with the likes of Spieth, Day, Adam Scott and Rickie Fowler.
