Sony issued a press release detailing hardware specifications for PlayStation 4 Pro, its anticipated update to PS4 hardware, which will launch on November 10 for $399. This new programming will allow Playstation 4 consoles to produce a greater dynamic range of luminosity than what would normally be allowed by more conventional consoles.

Gaming in 4k resolution is finally coming to consoles. The forthcoming Spider-Man game too. The new console is also compatible with all existing PS4 games, but it will also enable support for higher-resolution games and advanced PlayStation VR features. The PS4 Pro will have a 1TB hard drive as standard. It also hyped Project Scorpio, a more powerful version due in 2017 that will offer virtual reality and 4K gaming, just like the PlayStation Pro. Not all games will be updated to take advantage of the PS4 Pro but will still be able to be played on the console and should still provide better visuals if played on a 4K TV compared.

Every PS4 game title, including those already available and those launching in the future, will run on all PS4 including PS4 Pro.

It is aimed to sit alongside the PlayStation 4, rather than replace it. It certainly doesn’t hurt that Netflix will soon boast 600 hours of 4K entertainment, including Narcos and Luke Cage. Graphics are still boosted above what a typical PS4 can display, running everything at 1080p and at possibly higher framerates, so we’re still getting the extra fidelity regardless of TV used. In other words, all PS4 games will be playable on both consoles.

Of course, the PS4 Slim (which Sony is just calling the “PS4”) isn’t the PS4 Pro, which brings some extra features with a larger price tag.
