“If you have [PlayStation Now] today, then you’re ready to go”.

In addition to the reveal of these new models, it’s also sounding a lot like Sony might be phasing out the original PS4 model as well.

It’s not exactly unheard of, but an unusual return to a previous strategy. The standard model will be slimmer and lighter than the current PS4 console, which has already been discontinued.

The PS4 was off to a great start, commonly cited as having surpassed the Xbox One numerous times in terms of sales and popularity.

This means the device is likely to sell out in Japan, which is Sony’s home market.

The PS4 Slim follows in the footsteps of Microsoft’s Xbox One S, a dramatic redesign of the Xbox One console.

Sony’s announcement comes as the company frantically tries to shut down every trace online of the apparently leaked PS4 Slim console.

Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that their streaming service PlayStation Now is headed to PC along with a USB wireless adaptor for the DualShock 4 controller.

Now, the interesting bit here is that a PS3, PS4 or PS Vita is not necessary to run the games on the desktop, and more than that, players can continue their progress on any system.

As a high-end console the PS4 Neo will be priced at a premium and, according to Sony’s Andrew House, will be “more expensive than the PS4’s cost at launch”, which was $350.

The slimmer console is likely to become the new standard – while the Neo is Sony’s attempt at bringing back hardcore gamers
