The update highlights changes to membership price points that will go into effect on September 22, 2016. It all began two months ago when news broke that Sony was set to unveil a slim version of the PS4 at Tokyo Game Show 2016 in September, although further information outside of the rumor was hard, if not impossible, to obtain at the time.

As for release times, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see Sony announce a schedule similar to Microsoft’s console releases. In June, the company confirmed that it was working on a more powerful PS4 codenamed “Neo” that would include a faster processor, 4K resolution and better graphics. For the most part, the Slim model shares the same general aesthetic and shape of the original PS4, but as the below shot highlights, it’s much thinner, as you’d expect. Perhaps the company is confident that its users will continue paying for memberships even with the price increase, considering that it grants them access to online multiplayer mode for the PlayStation 4. The Slim model is also expected to be released that same week, hence the fact that boxed copies have already leaked out.
PlayStation Plus, as described by Sony, is the premium online gaming network for the gaming consoles of the company, now headlined by the PlayStation 4. For release times, prices and everything else, we’ll just have to wait for whatever Sony announces at the PlayStation Meeting on September 7. Either way, this is good news for consumers who would have more choices when it comes to choosing an entertainment console.

The reports from this little exposé suggest that the new PS4 Slim has the same capabilities as the existing PS4, rather than offering any sort of upgrade. But don’t forget the PlayStation VR headset is on the way, and while the headset can work quite well on a standard PS4, we suspect that the Neo will be talked about as a “preferred” experience.
