PlayStation VR is the new name for Sony’s Project Morpheus

Sony subsequently not only proved naysayers wrong, the PlayStation 4 certainly can power compelling VR experiences, they’ve also produced some of the best VR experiences yet to be shown on any platform. Which games would you like to see go VR compatible? At least you can rest easy knowing PlayStation VR probably won’t be as expensive as Sony’s old head-mounted displays (the HMZ-T2 still lists for $799.99), even if it does kinda look like one. Project Morpheus could be more intriguing of the two nicknames, but PlayStation VR is accomplished to tag a clear label to what is finally still a niche technology. Not only did it rename Project Morpheus as PlayStation VR, it also hinted the price of its upcoming headset. We should have suspected that the PlayStation marketing machine would come up with something simple but catchy for when its Oculus Rift challenging headset hits the shelves and PlayStation VR is just that.

Sony announced the PlayStation 4 will have a lower price, beginning October . 1, to maintain its sales momentum.

House said he still saw “tremendous potential for gaming as an entertainment medium in China” but there had been no rocketship start. “The current PlayStation VR HMD prototypes feature a 5.7″ OLED screen created to reduce the sense of motion sickness during use.

What is positive is that Ito did address this, saying that Sony will keep working with first and third party developers in order to “deliver exciting experiences only made possible with VR”. Announced games include Guerrilla Cambridge’s RIGS, CCP’s Eve Valkyrie, Gaijin’s War Thunder, nDreams’ The Assembly, Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIV and Studio Wildcard’s Ark: Survival Evolved. Other than the vague launch window of 2016, there’s still not much else we know about the PSVR other than it’ll work with the light sensors of your PS4, DualShock 4 and PS Move.
