PM, 57 ministers to spread across India for Yoga Day events

On Wednesday, few senior officials of the AYUSH Ministry held a review meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi wherein they discussed regarding the arrangements of the International Yoga Day special event on June 21, 2016, at the Chandigarh Capital complex.
Acting the UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia Christoph Bierwirth said the UN, declaring the International Day of Yoga, was facilitated by the fact that yoga is very useful and it is widespread throughout the world.
The first International Day of Yoga was celebrated with great fanfare in Colombo on 21 June 2015 at the iconic Galle Face Green, with the participation of more than a thousand yoga enthusiasts.
Commenting on the objective of taking yoga to children as well, Ghanashyam said the main event on the actual day on Tuesday would see the Johanensburg Consulate teaming up with the Art of Living Foundation to take yoga to hundreds of mainly Black school children in Soweto.
About 400 people gathered on Saturday for the event, organised by the Indian embassy in Ireland, Yoga Therapy Ireland and several other Indian and yoga organisations, The Irish Times reported.
Ambassadors and diplomats from various countries will also share their own experiences of how yoga has influenced their lifestyles.
“Yoga has been growing in popularity all over the world”, she said.
A host of other events have also been organized by the Indian Consulate in association with the local Indian community organizations in the NY tristate area.
Through a historic resolution, the UN General Assembly designated 21 June International Day of Yoga past year.
There will be yoga sessions in Pietermaritzburg and Durban as well as in centres throughout South Africa. The move was backed by 190 countries, including 40 Islamic nations.

While the International Yoga Day (IYD) is approaching, Central Government has planned something big to mark it, this year.
